Join a Team

The Whitehorse Mustangs primarily field junior domestic teams in the EDJBA. Where a complete team is formed (players, coach and team manager), teams may also be entered into GEBC, MEBA or CBL competitions (conditions apply).

Below is an overview of each competition.

Competitions

EDJBA Competition

The Eastern Districts Junior Basketball Association (EDJBA) is the largest junior domestic basketball competition in Australia.

  • Games played on Saturdays
  • Venues across Melbourne, from Park Orchards to Princes Hill, and Bundoora to Blackburn South

Other Competitions (Subject to Interest)

  • BYO teams welcome
  • Minimum seven players and a coach required

Where We Train

Training sessions are held at:

Each team receives a 60‑minute mid‑week training session.

  • Training days: Monday to Thursday
  • Session times: 4:00pm – 8:00pm
  • Younger teams generally train earlier

Age Groups

Age groups are determined by date of birth, with cut‑off dates varying by competition.

Playing Outside Your Age Group

  • Up two age groups: Permitted with a signed parent/guardian waiver prior to playing.

We will do our best to accommodate requests, subject to availability.

New to Basketball?

Our New Member Information is designed to help families understand how junior domestic basketball works at the Mustangs.

It includes:

  • How the club operates
  • What to expect during the season
  • How to get involved as a volunteer

Perfect for new families looking to get started with confidence.

Team Selection Process

Our volunteer Team Selection Committee works hard to place each player in a team that best matches their ability, supporting development, confidence and enjoyment of the game.

To assist the committee, families are encouraged to:

  • Limit other activities scheduled on Saturdays
  • Maximise training day and time availability

Please note:

  • The more restrictions a player has, the harder it is to place them
  • Team selection concerns are reviewed by the committee, not individuals
  • Feedback must be submitted via the Team Selection Feedback Form within 72 hours of teams being released

Full details are available in the Team Selection Policy.

Custom Teams

Custom Teams are available for:

  • U08/09
  • U15/16 and above

In general, the club reserves the right to select the top one or two teams in each age group based on merit, ability and talent, to remain competitive across all grades.

While we aim to accommodate friendship requests, this is not always possible. Reciprocated friendship requests may be made in all age groups.

Families wishing to register a Custom Team must complete the Custom Team Request Form. The Team Selection Committee will be in touch to discuss the request and provide the registration link.

Important: The date the form is submitted determines whether the Early Bird, Standard or Late registration fee applies. Voucher codes may be issued to ensure the correct rate.
