Building a Positive Game Day Culture
To our players, families, coaches and supporters,
Game day is something special. It is loud, passionate and competitive. That is what makes our community great. But we must never lose sight of what this truly is. Junior sport.
The majority of our referees are under 18. They are learning. They are developing. They show up each week to support the same players you are cheering for. They deserve encouragement, not criticism.
Our officials are doing the very best they can in a fast and dynamic environment. Mistakes will happen, just like players miss shots and coaches make tough calls. That is all part of growth.
If you genuinely disagree with a decision, please do not direct frustration toward referees. Instead, have a respectful conversation with our Venue Supervisors. We are always open to discussion, just in the right way and at the right time.
As adults in the room, we set the standard. The way we behave teaches our young athletes what sport and community should look like.
Let us ensure Whitehorse Basketball remains a place where players feel safe, referees feel supported and families feel proud to be part of something bigger than the scoreboard.
Thank you for helping create a positive game day environment.
